HOW TO BLEACH/DISINFECT YOUR WATER WELL

If you live in an area where your water comes from your own private water well instead of the city there are some things you may need to know about general maintenance and upkeep needed to maintain safe drinking water. It is not uncommon for a water well to become "infected" with and overgrowth of bacteria that naturally occur in the air and soil around us. Often this can happen if the well is stagnant for a period of time, like when you are out of town for a long vacation and water is not being used. Sometimes you can get a bacteria that produces a sulfur gas that can make you water stink. In those cases often the local water authorities will recommend bleaching you well.
